Local Artist Noemi Geerman is Caribbean Queen for May 2016
Each month, Caribbean Queen at the Palm Beach Plaza Mall honors one local female artist who lives and creates here. The Caribbean Queen program was launched when the store opened in late 2011, and has been running successfully ever since.
For the month of May 2016, local artist Noemi Geerman is the boutique's celebrated Caribbean Queen, showcasing her charming handcrafted jewelry line.
Born and raised on the island, Noemi enjoyed a tightly knit family who loves the outdoors, the beach, and the ocean, and she remembers herself as a child enjoying island life and the abundant nature around her. She spent much of her childhood on the beach, camping on weekends, playing in the sand, and collecting shells. Later on, when she started collecting sea glass, she discovered that she could turn the pieces into jewelry.
She started experimenting with sea glass, and this has become her passion. Noemi loves the idea that all creation starts in the ocean. What the ocean brings to us as part of its journey and process makes every piece unique in its own way. Noemi finds it fascinating that every piece of glass she collects is shaped for days, months, or even years by the natural grinding action of the salty water and sand.
Her AWASALO begins there, with simple beach walks. Then she handpicks pieces for their shape, color, texture, and natural beauty, and turns them into beautiful things to wear, carry, and connect with the ocean’s energy.
Caribbean Queen earmarks a percentage of all sales for its Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World) program. The collected funds are given quarterly to local not-for-profit organizations in an ongoing effort to serve the community. All the foundations served with donations from Caribbean Queen are dedicated to the promotion of art and artisan education on the island.
Enjoy Noemi's unique sea glass jewelry throughout the month of May and drop in to witness a live demonstration of her craft at the boutique on the third Thursday of the month in the evening hours.
