Windsurfers, kite surfers, both professional and amateur compete in the largest windsurfing event in the Caribbean: Aruba Hi-Winds annual competition!
Aruba is called the windsurf capital of the world and with good reason! Windsurfers and kite surfers, both professional and amateur, all compete in the largest windsurfing event in the Caribbean: the annual Aruba Hi-Winds competition! As usual, the event takes place from July 4th until July 13th at the Fishermen's Huts.
Our year-round amiable weather, reliable trade winds, and calm, shallow water conditions have been providing the ultimate playing ground for this sport and thousands of participants and spectators flock down to Aruba for the competitions, the festivities and the parties on the beach! Check out this awesome trailer of the Aruba Hi-Winds Event to get a quick impression of all the activities and festivities!
The Aruba Hi-Winds, which started in 1987, has drawn international surf professionals, including Bjorn Dunckerbeck, Robby Naish and Anders Bringdal. Aruba’s very own Sarah-Quita Offringa began her foray into competition windsurfing during the Aruba Hi-Winds and is now the shining star of the sport as the current PWA Women’s Freestyle World Champion for six years running.

In the category of windsurfing, some big names have been confirmed for the 2015 event: Taty Frans, Choco Frans, and Kiri Thode. Taty and Kiri are regulars on the PWA World Pro Tour and are top contenders both in Slalom and Freestyle. Half of the competitors are from abroad; the US, the Netherlands, Argentina, and Curaçao are just a few of the countries who will be sending competitors.

The competitions and activities will take place at the Fishermen huts which are located just north of the high-rise hotel area, with some of the kitesurfing playing out at Boca Grandi on the southern tip of Aruba.

Whether you are a competitor or not, there’s plenty of fun-in-the-sun! Chill in the water, watch the competitions, grab a drink or two during the Amstel Bright Happy hour (from 5 to 7 in the weekend) and party at night under the mega tent lively with Aruban bands and local DJ’s!
